About || Anthropology
CASCA’s annual conference on the theme of Engagements and Entanglements/Engagements et Enchevêtrements will be held (virtually) at the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, from May 12-15, 2021.
We are pleased to be able to host Dr. Kamari Clarke (University of Toronto) as our Keynote Speaker this year.
The conference will also host talks from the Weaver-Tremblay winners (2020, 2021), the CASCA Annual General Meeting, a department chair meeting, and informal drop-in and networking spaces, using the online conference platform Hopin.
Closer to the start of the conference, participants will have access to information about how to use Hopin, including exclusive pre-conference online sessions to tour the platform.
Please see the full theme, the call for papers and the registration link for more information, and to propose a paper, session, or poster.
Deadline for submissions: February 1, 2021
Proposal Submissions and Types
CASCA 2021 invites the submission of individual posters, papers, and sessions (panels, symposia, or roundtables). We encourage panels/sessions that bring together presenters engaging with the conference theme, and other emerging and critical issues.
If you are organizing a panel, symposium, or roundtable and wish to advertise the session/find presenters, you can request circulation of your announcement by emailing cascanews@cas-sca.ca.
Individual papers (15 minutes each)
Individual papers accepted by the program organizing committee will be grouped into thematic sessions. Submissions must include a title, abstract (100-150 words), keywords, and co-authors (if applicable).
If you are submitting a paper as part of an organized panel/symposium/roundtable, you must also provide the name of the organizer and title of the panel.
90-minute panels
These must be composed of 4-5 presentations (including if there is a formal discussant), followed by time for discussion. The panel organizer must provide a 100-150 word abstract describing the proposed panel, and include a list of the participants (including chair and discussant).
90-minute roundtables
The roundtable organizer must provide a 100-150 word abstract describing the proposed roundtable theme, and include a list of at least 3 confirmed participants (the roundtable organizer counts as one of the participants). Completion of the registration/submission form by the posted submission deadline is a requirement for all confirmed roundtable participants.
Symposia
Symposia are two or more 90-minute panels, and will be scheduled back-to-back. The symposium organizer must provide a 100-150 word abstract describing the proposed panel, and include a list of the participants (including chair and discussant(s)).
Graduate students
Graduate students who have collected primary research materials are invited to apply to the conference. Papers should not consist of work done as part of a course-based project.
Student poster presentations
The conference will be hosting an online poster session. Undergraduate honours students and graduate students are encouraged to present posters of their research projects and findings. Abstracts should be 100 words.
If you have questions about proposal types, please contact casca2021@uoguelph.ca
